GENOA, W.Va. — There might not be an easy way out or in to Hampton Ridge, but that didn’t stop thousands of Tom Petty fans from standing their ground at a tribute for the late singer at Rustic Ravines this weekend.

Owner Joe Boffo said the event was the second-largest gathering in the history of Genoa and Hampton Ridge — coming in second to the location’s open house (in late September).

“It was a packed house once again, thank you Wayne County,” he said. “Thank God the weather held off for us or it could have been a bust. But Kelsie May, Jordan Reeves Band and Aaron Queen did a great job and a good time was had by all.”

May is a local recording artist who appeared as a contestant on “The Voice” television series.

The event brought in thousands of guests throughout the 4-10 p.m. period and offered food from Rustic Ravines’ newly opened on-site restaurant.

Boffo said it was a good training opportunity to feed a large crowd.

“We were able to serve good food and handle the long lines with no problem,” he said.

Petty, the iconic frontman who led the band The Heartbreakers, passed away in early October from heart complications.
